The Manhunt series consists of two stealth/action horror video games made primarily by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games.

Gameplay[]

Each games is made up of a series of linear levels, each consisting of the player reaching a certain location and/or completing an objective, whilst being "hunted" by multiple enemies that usually out-number the player and are alot stronger. Unlike most action games, it is very difficult to face enemies out in the open, so the player is given the ability to hide from hunters. When the player moves into the shadows, they become invisible, as long as no hunter saw them enter.

When the player is equipped with a weapon, they can sneak up behind a hunter with a melee weapon and execute them one by one. The player has the choice of three different executions for each weapon: Hasty, Violent and Gruesome. Sneaking up behind an unaware enemy and tapping the attack button will cause the player to perform a hasty one, but if the player gets the opportunity to "stalk" their prey, by holding down the attack button, they can wait until the crossheir turns yellow and release to perform a violent on or red to perform a gruesome one. In Manhunt 2, many more execution types have been added, such as environment ones. Firearms are also present in both games, giving the player the ability to get involved in firefights in the open or taking cover behind walls and large items.

To pick enemies off one by one, the player can lure them apart or to a different area by throwing small items, hitting walls, kicking trash cans... etc. The player must also control the sound of his footsteps, as when the player walks on rubble it will make a sound and give away his position to any hunter that hears it, however walking on normal surface like concrete and grass is silent. Running will also make noise.

If a hunter finds a dead body, they will become suspicious and search harder, as well as call for back-up. The player has the ability to pick up corpses and hide them in the shadows to help avoid suspicion. Some hunters with firearms will often fire shots at random into the shadows when they see a body.
